REBECCA STUARD: IMPROVOLUTION Executive Director, NYC

Founded by Los Angeles GROUNDLING alum Holly Mandel in 2002, IMPROVOLUTION is an improv school, a group of performers, and dare we say philosophy of how to live, create, and collaborate on and off stage. (yes, we dare!) If you want to learn it, we can teach you. It’s not about being funny or clever or the best, or needing to be a good actor or performer. It's not reducible to one format, game, or rule.

It’s about investing in and getting behind the part of yourself that is fearless, creative, open, spontaneous, and likes the idea of creating with others and supporting them. Improvisation has been and always will be a “team sport”. And IMPROVOLUTION carries on the GROUNDLINGS tradition that Holly learned of a character-based emphasis to improv, with her own unique teaching process and philosophy that sets it apart from all other schools in NYC.

IMPROVOLUTION is the first - and may still be the only - improv school in NYC started and run by women.

Basically, improv is just kinda awesome. It helps people work together in amazing ways. It helps people think faster on their feet and trust their ideas. Both Holly and Rebecca Stuard, the school’s Executive Director and co-owner, want everyone who is interested to experience the freedom, joy, and individual and collective creativity that improv unlocks!
